Joanna, Law student from Symbiosis Law School discusses in her article the difference in the Prisoner’s rights in European Union with that of India. Prisoners make up an important part of the social fabric of Europe as the system is reformative and not punishment-based, much like India.
The rights given to prisoners help them improve so that they can be reintegrated into society. She also shed light on the various aspects of prisoner’s rights such as voting rights, Juvenile detention, conjugal visits and the concept of death row. Over the years, prisoner’s rights have growing importance in today’s world as the question of death penalty, custodial deaths, torture, across the world.
